The Purpose of the G1 Summit

The world is changing at such a rapid pace that it feels as though we are undergoing a seismic shift.

It is against this background that I decided to convene this conference—our own version of the Davos Forum—for a new generation of leaders in Japan to discuss important issues and create a network of like-minded people.

We named the conference the “G1 Summit.”

The name is derived from the following aspirations:
(1) That the globe will become as one
(2) That we can become No. 1 if we have a Global mindset
(3) That our generation will unite as one

I hope that leading politicians, bureaucrats, business people, academics, intellectuals, cultural figures, and media representatives will gather and discuss topics in a wide range of fields beyond their own, including politics, economics, business, culture, arts, technology, the environment, and education. I also hope they will extend and deepen their networks.

In principle, we would like to gather leaders in their 40s up to around 50. We will offer an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and perspectives required to exercise leadership in Japan and in the world, establish their vision, and build a network of camaraderie.

I hope that some of the politicians who participate in the conference will go on to become the prime minister of Japan, that the business people will become leaders in the business community, that the academic participants will bring new knowledge to the world as intellectual leaders, and that the cultural leaders will contribute to enrichment of culture in Japan and globally.

The basic principles of the G1 Summit are as follows:
(1) Make proposals rather than mere criticism
(2) Take action, do not just form ideas
(3) Foster an awareness as the next generation of leaders

We will have in-depth discussions about Japan, Asia, and the world as the next generation of global leaders. Let’s make Japan a better place.
